BACKGROUND:
Medical Science & Computing, Inc. is searching for a Bioinformatics Software Developer Team Lead to support the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This opportunity is a full-time position with MSC and it is on-site at NIH in Bethesda, MD.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
Work cooperatively with the current software development team to:
* Provide software development services to address the needs of life science researchers
* Explore, experiment and recommend bioinformatics software and systems
* Participate in the basic requirements collection, design review, coding, testing, troubleshooting and support for custom developed software solutions
* Stay abreast on current and emerging software development technologies and tools

REQUIREMENTS:
* Masters or a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Computer Science, or a related computational discipline
* A minimum of 3 years of work experience in a bioinformatics research and software development environment, including at least 2 years of team lead or management experience
* Author or co-author on peer-reviewed journal publications related to bioinformatics or computational science research
* Ability to address business needs with effective and efficient technical solutions
* Must be able to work independently and collaboratively
* Understand principles of business and project management and effectively communicate technical concepts
* Ability to grasp the broader picture of a subject, but also give attention to detail
* Must be able to adapt in a dynamic work environment and co-operate with team members and clients from a broad range of disciplines and subject level expertise
* Required experiences are:
o Programming language: Java/J2EE
o Scripting languages: Perl, Python or Shell
o Relational database development: MySQL
o Operating systems: Linux or Mac OS
o Working knowledge of Genomics and/or Proteomics data analysis tools
o Web development using modern frameworks such as Hibernate or Spring
o Web Service implementation
o Open source Bioinformatics packages such as BioJava or BioPerl
o Documenting requirements
* Preferred experiences are:
o Large scale data analysis using R and/or Matlab
o High performance computing cluster
o Software development infrastructure setup and management
o Project management
o Team building and management
* Good communication skills, both written and verbal
* Ability to work independently, be detail-oriented, and have excellent analytical skills
* Demonstrate initiative in experimenting with new technologies
