BACKGROUND
Do you have an advanced degree in biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, or bioengineering? Are you interested and experienced in data-enabled life science research? We're hiring in the Life Sciences Computing Group at the Texas Advanced Computing Center! Come join the most interesting and dynamic group of scientists and engineers around as we advance science and society through the application of advanced computing.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position will join the Life Sciences Computing group at TACC to provide bioinformatics support for primary research activities in plant epigenome dynamics and diversity, and to offer consulting support and training to the local and national Life Sciences community on the use of TACC systems and software.
Essential Functions:
Utilizing methods in computational genomics to illuminate the relationships between epigenetics, gene expression, and phenotype. Developing tools in the iPlant Collaborative Discovery Environment (preview.iplantcollaborative.org/de) to support collaborative analysis of genomic data sets. Implementing comprehensive data management plans in support of genomics research projects. Coordinating seminars, training events, documentation, and software between TACC and the University of Texas Genome Sequencing and Analysis Facility. Consulting with researchers on specific questions regarding the application/use of TACC's computational systems. Providing one-on-one and small group research facilitation by assisting researchers who may be unfamiliar with the use of advanced computational systems for the analysis of biological data.
REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. degree with major coursework in biological science, engineering, or computer science that includes a substantial computational biology research component and two years of related experience or M.S. degree and four years of related experience, or B.S. degree and six years of related experience. One year of work experience conducting computational biology research (academic, government, or industry). Biology-applicable knowledge of at least one of the following language platforms: R/Bioconductor, scientific Python, Perl, or C/C++. Strong interest in biological sciences and technology and ability to rapidly adopt and adapt to leading edge technologies. Superior oral presentation and communications skills.
