    Opportunity: NCS - Application Programmer (#1005) @ Social & Scientific Systems, Inc.--Rockville, MD (US)

    OVERVIEW

    Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS), a company dedicated to improving public health around the world, is looking for an Application Programmer to support the Information Management System (IMS) contract, which is a large 5-year Federal project to support the National Children's Study (NCS).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Application Programmer will be responsible for providing expertise for a large information management system and associated applications.

    Duties and responsibilities include:
    • Writing requirements
    • Developing software from program specifications.
    • Testing and debugging program to meet specification.
    • Tracing test cases back to requirements
    • Developing time and effort estimates for implementing requirements
    • Writing technical documentation
    • Supporting end-users

    REQUIREMENTS

    • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, plus 4-6 years of related experience. Solid understanding of XML, .NET application development and SQL Server
    • Familiar with PHP and MySQL
    • Strong logical/critical thinking abilities, especially analyzing existing database layouts, application architectures, schemas and developing a good understanding of the application model
    • Strong technical writing skills and ability to document technical architectural solution, create detailed design, requirements document, and deployment plan
    • In addition, able to develop effective user interfaces, knowledge of commonly used concepts, practices, and procedures of software development, strong time management skills including the ability to organize and manage multiple priorities
    • Survey and/or clinical trials experience a plus
