OVERVIEW
The Human Genome Sequencing Center at Baylor College of Medicine seeks an enthusiastic individual to work in a rapidly evolving research lab to create world-class software. This new member will work with researchers to create unique and impactful applications that will further the understanding of genetic diseases. In addition, the member shall have the responsibility of writing JQuery/HTML5 web applications that display data utilized by clinicians and patients.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include:
- Work with technical leads to understand, develop and implement use cases.
- Troubleshoot existing use cases, and communicate with users about future enhancements.
- Train user base.
- Participate in requirements clarification, design, development and creation of unit tests.
- Develop a domain rich, research database.
REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education Required: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, MIS, or related programming field.
Minimum Job Experience Required: Three years of experience in scientific programming. Ability to program one of the following: Java, Ruby, Javascript, or an Object oriented language. Understanding of an agile development methodology.
Desired Skills:
- 5+ years of building Java web applications and services, working withrelevant tools (IDEs, ant, junit, etc.)
- Understanding of MVC architectures
- Experience with relational databases (both transactional and non-transactional), database architecture
- Ability to be a generalist/"jack of all trades"
- Willingness to learn and be a team player
- An interest in genetic diseases
- Good interpersonal skills and experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
- Excellent communication skills
Additional Information Technology environment: Java, Google web toolkit, Hibernate, Moab, jQuery, MySQL/Oracle, Perl, Python, Tomcat, Archiva, Maven, SVN, RESTful services.
