    BACKGROUND

    SAIC-Frederick Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC, is accelerating the development of new technologies and treatments for patients with cancer and AIDS. SAIC-Frederick is the operations and technical support contractor for the National Cancer Institute at Frederick, a federal national laboratory.

    Program Description:
    The Core Genotyping Facility (CGF) in Gaithersburg, MD, is a fast-paced,high-throughput genotyping and sequencing facility dedicated to the support of molecular, genetic and epidemiologic studies for investigators at the National Cancer Institute's Division of Cancer Epidemiology & Genetics.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    We are seeking a highly motivated senior bioinformatician to join the Bioinformatics Team at the CGF to serve as a manager and technical lead for the Sequencing Analysis Group. The incumbent and their team will be responsible for the following key deliverables:
    • Data management and analysis of whole-genome, exome, transcriptome, metholome, and targeted resequencing data generated by multiple "next-generation" sequencing technologies, including Illumina, IonTorrent, Roche/454, Pacific Bioscience, Complete Genomics and others;
    • Development of reliable software pipelines in collaboration with laboratory staff, investigators and analysts, to perform quality control analysis, sequence alignment, variant calling, annotation and analysis of sequence data to infer population characteristics, phenotype association, and risk modeling;
    • Integration of diverse data types for use in phenotype/genotype association testing, including microarray genotype data, multivariate epidemiological data, and diverse genomic annotations;
    • Development and dissemination of bioinformatics software, methods, and data for the benefit of NCI investigators and the scientific community at large; Progress on projects will be reported on a regular basis and incumbent may be responsible for presenting data at meetings, conferences or other venues.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Basic Qualifications:
    • Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college/university in a scientific field such as chemistry, physics, mathematics, or computer science or six (6) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
    • In addition to education requirements, a minimum of four (4) years of progressively responsible job related experience including one (1)year of experience in a leadership capacity is required.
    • Experience managing complex programs or large production units are required.
    • Must have extensive experience in human genetics.
    • Experience in writing manuscripts and dissemination of data
    • This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.

    PREFERENCES

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • PhD in computational genetics, bioinformatics, biostatistics or equivalent preferred
    • Project management
    • Sequence analysis
    • Experience managing large datasets and computation
    • Experience in the field of molecular and population genetics
