RESPONSIBILITIES
J. Craig Venter Institute, a dynamic, world leading scientific research institute is seeking to fill a Post Doctoral Fellow position. The successful candidate will be responsible for funded research projects including functional analysis in human microbiome and metagenomic data, metagenomic biomarker discovery in human disease in addition to phylogenetic, evolutionary and genome recombination analysis in DNA and RNA viruses. Areas of interest will include taxonomic and functional analysis of metagenomic sequence data, biodiversity estimation and characterization of recombination events in emerging and reemerging pathogenic viruses to understand pathways of evolution.
The Post Doctoral Fellow research areas include studies of the human microbiome and quantitative methods development for the analysis of structured high-dimensional phenotypic, genetic, genomic, and metagenomic data in a multi-disciplinary environment. The candidate should be broadly conversant with bioinformatic techniques for genomic data analysis and will collaborate closely with software developers for methods implementation and with experimental laboratories for validation of computational results.
REQUIREMENTS
Successful candidates will have a Doctoral degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, Biology, or a related field; proficiency in statistical programming and/or scripting languages appropriate for scalable data analysis (e.g., R, Python, etc.); comfort and experience with programming for biological data analysis; familiarity with functional genetic and/or genomic data, as indicated by publication record; ability to communicate scientific material and collaborate well.
