Opportunity: Post-doctoral position @ The Hamner Institutes--Durham, NC (US)
Submitted by Kristin Overman; posted on Wednesday, July 25, 2012

In vitro to in vivo extrapolation with PBPK modeling and in vitro kinetic studies

    RESPONSIBILITIES

The Hamner Institutes for Health Sciences is seeking an enthusiastic post-doctoral fellow to participate in developing biological models to assess human health risks of engineered nanoparticles and other environmental chemicals, including pesticides, across life stages based on in vitro to in vivo extrapolation approach. The successful candidate will be involved in developing cellular dosimetry models and physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) models to describe pharmacokinetic behaviors of engineered nanoparticles in vitro as well as in the whole body. The research will be focused on extrapolating in vitro findings to in vivo to support developing the pharmacokinetic models. As part of this IVIVE research effort, the candidate will also participate in collecting in vitro kinetic parameters on intestinal permeability and pre-systemic clearance using Caco-2 model.

    REQUIREMENTS

The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. with a major in toxicology, pharmacology, bio-engineering, or other related disciplines. Familiarity with computational modeling including but not limited to PK, PBPK, and QSAR will be an asset. Experience in the interpretation of experimental results from toxicity, metabolism, and pharmacokinetic studies, both in vivo and in vitro, and use of the results in computational modeling will also be advantageous. Excellent communication skills and the ability to work independently but also as part of a team will be essential.

    HOW TO APPLY

Qualified candidates need to submit their resume and postdoctoral application which can be found at http://www.thehamner.org/careers/application-forms/ to koverman[at]thehamner.org or fax 919-558-1430. Please refer to the "Computational Modeling Postdoctoral Fellowship" position.
