BACKGROUND
Microbial communities comprise the dominant life form on earth and major drivers of global geochemical processes, yet are remain poorly understood. Improving our understanding of microbial communities is essential to developing bioremediation strategies. As part of large multidisciplinary research program at LBL we seek to define the principles of selection of microbial community function, composition, bioenergetics, and physiology. This role will play an important role in developing and applying metabolite profiling and imaging to resolve trophic interactions, signaling, and localization of metabolism within microbial communities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and apply innovative mass spectrometry based imaging and metabolite profiling approaches to study microbial communities
- High productivity on large complex research project
- Analyze and integrate results
- Publish scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals and present findings at seminars and conferences.
- Collaborate with other members of the program project research team both internal and external to Berkeley Lab and develop new collaborations as appropriate to further the scientific goals of the Program
