    New College of Florida invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Bioinformatics beginning August 2013. New College, situated on the Gulf Coast of Florida and Sarasota Bay, is a nationally recognized, highly-selective public honors college with an 11:1 student:faculty ratio.


    Undergraduate research is a vital component of the curriculum. Teaching load is two classes per semester, plus supervision of tutorials, independent study projects, and senior theses.

    This position is a Public-Private collaboration with significant research opportunities through the Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute ( The Division is especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community through research, teaching and service.


    A PhD in Bioinformatics or a related field is required, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. The successful candidate should have expert use of genomic databases, strong capabilities in data mining/pattern recognition, and the ability to teach an upper level biology course with lab. Clear evidence of significant scientific programming and tool development experience is necessary. The candidate is expected to have a strong commitment to teaching undergraduates and to working collaboratively with others in both a teaching and a research setting.
