RESPONSIBILITIES
DuPont Pioneer, a leader in plant biotechnology delivering advanced plant genetics to farmers, is seeking a research scientist to help develop integration, management and decision support systems for scientific data. We are developing concepts to integrate, present, and analyze data to support the characterization and development of commercial traits for various crops in all DuPont Pioneer markets.
We are looking for creative individuals with critical thinking skills to develop robust and innovative solutions to complex problems in an evolving research environment. There is flexibility with where this position will be located, and we will consider applicants that would be working from a remote location.
The successful candidate will work as an informatics scientist embedded in the Ag Biotech research organization to establish deep partnerships with scientists, program and project leaders to a) identify needs and opportunities to address gaps in the integration, reporting, and analysis of data; and b) in concert with the research and informatics groups, develop solutions to meet these data intensive challenges.
The research scientist will play a central role in identifying and articulating the research needs to informatics as well as coordinate with strategic planning for the development of the analytic and integration infrastructures required to address such needs across the organization.
REQUIREMENTS
Ph.D. in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering or related field and a minimum of 2 years of experience in data mining / multivariate data analysis, data management and visualization tools required; or equivalent levels of relevant education and experience.
The ideal candidate must have strong written and verbal communication skills and have the demonstrated ability to successfully drive a collaboration effort between different departments.
Highly desirable skills and experience include the following: Ability to identify and address gaps in information management, reporting, and analysis; Rapid development of web based and other tools for use by decision makers (viz. scientists, managers, and other stakeholders); Basics of database design, query (SQL), and tuning; and Good software development skills (Java, C++, Perl, Python).
Desirable skills and/or interest in career development: Multivariate data analysis in R, SPSS, SAS, or MATLAB; Supervised and unsupervised machine learning theory and algorithms; and Frequentist and Bayesian statistical analyses. Familiarity with data integration techniques and interest in High Performance Computing and Big Data architectures are a plus.
