Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICS Programmer for Immunology Applications @ La Jolla Institute for Allergy & Immunology -- La Jolla, CA (US)

BACKGROUND
Founded in 1988, the La Jolla Institute for Allergy and Immunology (http://www.liai.org) is a non-profit medical research center dedicated to increasing knowledge and improving human health through studies of the immune system. Researchers at the institute carry out studies designed to understand and lead to the development of cures for cancer, allergy and asthma, infectious diseases, and autoimmune diseases such as diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease and arthritis. The institute's research staff includes over 100 Ph.Ds.
RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated programmer to join the Peters lab (http://www.liai.org/pages/faculty-peters) in San Diego, California. Candidates will work within a team of experimental and computational scientists to develop, deploy, and maintain production web applications and databases used to improve the scientific understanding of the human immune system and facilitate the development of new diagnostics, vaccines and immunotherapeutics. Candidates will have the opportunity to expand their knowledge and working experience in bioinformatics and immunology while working at one of the world's top five immunological research institutes.
REQUIREMENTS
Interested candidates should have at least a Bachelor degree in the sciences with strong computer programming and information technology experience. Other requirements include demonstrated experience with Java web development, relational databases, XML, Linux/Unix, and major bioinformatics resources (e.g. GenBank, Swiss-Prot, PDB, BLAST, and NCBI Entrez).
PREFERENCES
Experience with .Net, Perl, Python, Django, ASP, Struts, Eclipse IDE, and Apache Tomcat is desirable, and background knowledge of immunology, biochemistry, and bioinformatics is a strong plus.
COMPENSATION
Salary will be commensurate with experience.
