Project in the spotlight: T2K Acronym Finder
Submitted by J.W. Bizzaro; posted on Tuesday, January 06, 2004 (1 comment)
Submitter If you'd like to look up the definition of an acronym you have found in a medical or biological text, or if you'd like to find synonyms for a given acronym, T2K Acronym Finder is the tool to use.

T2K (Text2Knowledge) Acronym Finder, developed by Yong Huang, uses a database of acronyms extracted from MEDLINE. All of the entries are generated automatically and scored. ``The higher the score, the more likely it is a valid full name for the acronym,'' according to the website.

And users of the tool can easily contribute to its efficacy, as the web interface allows the results to be rated.

T2K Acronym Finder is part of the Text2Knowledge (T2K) project, which is aiming to provide text mining tools and information, for and from medical texts. It utilizes natural language processing (NLP) techniques to extract patterns from text and convert them into knowledge.

Text2Knowledge is being hosted exclusively at Bioinformatics.Org. T2K Acronym Finder and other subprojects can be found at the website:
