    Education: Introductory course in bioinformatics--Kenya

    The ILRI/BecA EMBNet node is presenting an introductory course in Bioinformatics for scientists in East and Central Africa in collaboration with the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU), Uppsala University (UU) and The Linnaeus Centre for Bioinformatics (LCB) funded by SIDA Sweden.

    OBJECTIVE

    The objective of the course is to introduce young scientists to, and encourage application of, bioinformatics/computational biology in their research and to present some of the new biological resources available on the ILRI-BecA bioinformatics platform.

    PROGRAMME

    Day 1 - Introduction to Linux operating system
    Day 2 - Introduction to Bioinformatics and Biological Databases
    Day 3 - EMBOSS and wEMBOSS sequence analysis package
    Day 4 - Sequence analysis
    Day 5 - Ensembl
    Day 6 - Multiple sequence alignment and phylogenetics
