Immigrant: The database of immigrant genes.
Eukaryotic genes from alpha Proteobacteria
This is the Immigrant database of eukaryotic genes related to alpha Proteobacteria. The name Immigrant refers to the foreign bacterial genes immigrating and becoming established in the eukaryotic lineage. The database was created by taking each gene of the alpha Proteobacteria Rickettsia prowazekii and doing protein blast searches. The primary criteria for whether or not a eukaryotic gene came from the alpha Proteobacteria is if it branches with alpha Proteobacteria in a phylogenetic tree to the exclusion of other bacterial types. Since "normal" eukaryotic genes are not usually monophyletic with alpha Proteobacteria this criteria is good evidence that the genes Immigrated from alpha Proteobacteria.
