<P>I'm not quite sure what you mean by identity as opposed to similarity? If you mean a region that can be used to characterise a protein family then the following may help. I'm afraid that I can't help with the programming but the PRINTS database stores sets of consensus sequences that are used to characterise protein superfamilies, families etc. Obviously that's of no use if you really need to write a programme to do it though.</P>
