I recommend installing "Bioconda" under Bio-Linux 8:

I use "Bioconda" to install QIIME, because QIIME is quite sensitive to
which versions of supporting software are used. The versions of QIIME
supported by "Bioconda" are 1.8.0, 1.9.1
