Hi, Carlo.

Tracey forwarded your message to me and I've CC'ed my reply to the
Bio-Linux and Debian-Med mailing lists in case anyone else has similar
questions.

The web pages you have been looking at relate to Bio-Linux 8.0.7, based
on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and are of historical interest only because
Bio-Linux is no longer developed or supported or by NERC/EOS. We created
a final Bio-Linux 8.0.8 'point' release with an updated kernel and
packages, but Bio-Linux 8 is now at End-Of-Life and is deprecated.

I've been working for many years with the Debian-Med team who have
packaged a huge amount of open-source bioinformatics software. You will
find most of what you are looking for in the Debian-Med "med-bio"
meta-package in the Ubuntu repositories. I've started a Bio-Linux 9
project with help from the Debian-Med team and you are welcome to join in.

All Bio-Linux releases were based on Ubuntu LTS releases and I would not
recommend using Ubuntu 19.04. My present development on Bio-Linux 9 is
based on remastering the Ubuntu-MATE 18.04 LTS ISO. I presented my ideas
at the Debian-Med Sprint in Vilnius earlier this year:

Please post a message on the Debian-Med mailing list if you are
interested in helping develop Bio-Linux 9.

I'm working at the Mario-Negri Institute in Milan this week and next
week: If you are near Milan, how about meeting up for a chat/beer?

Thanks,

   Tony.
