/usr/lib/menu/kstars: section=Apps/Science\
# grep hints $(grep -l Science /usr/lib/menu/*)
/usr/lib/menu/celestia: hints="KDE"\
/usr/lib/menu/kalzium: hints="KDE"\
/usr/lib/menu/kstars: hints="KDE"\
Despite this, no submenu is created to group them (did not check al
menthods, but at least fvwm and gnome-panel show this).
Please find attached the output of "update-menus --stdout".

I am not sure I understand your claim. What is the problem exactly ?

If it is related to hints, I will probably need the menu.h since
hints are disabled by default. It may well happen menu behaviour
is correct depending of the value of hint_nentry.

Since the Apps menu is already quite above hint_nentry, it would seem
logical that the Science submenu would be created, to drop the menu size by
2 items.

Well, if hint_nentry does not include the submenus in its could, that could
be the explanation.

<pre class="message">I have a hunch regarding this bug. I do not have the programming
expertise neccessary to confirm it, but perhaps it could spur someone
in the right direction. The docs indicate a sqrt is involved in the
selection of the optimal arrangement. This would seemingly result in
one menu being 10 items too long being preferred (incorrectly, imho)
over 10 submenus being 1 items too short, sqrt(10) being less than
10*sqrt(1).
