Summary: Computer-based course covering statistical methods currently used to map disease susceptibility genes, with an emphasis on (but not limited to) methods that can analyse family data or a combination of families and individuals. 

Molecular Approaches to Clinical Microbiology in Africa 
10-16 September 2011 
Malawi-Liverpool-Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Programme, Blantyre, Malawi
Closing Date: 29 April 2011
Summary: Laboratory-based course introducing clinical microbiologists and laboratory scientists working in Africa to genome-based molecular techniques for the diagnosis and characterisation of, and research into, bacterial pathogens. 
Practical Aspects of Biopharmaceutical Drug Discovery
19-24 September 2011 
Closing Date 10th June 2011 
Summary: Discussion/presentation-based course providing researchers of any discipline with a broad introduction into the theoretical, practical and organisational aspects of biologics discovery and early development. 

Design and Analysis of Genetic Based Association Studies 
26-30 September 2011
Closing Date 17 June 2011 
Summary: Computer-based course providing researchers involved in disease studies with a firm grounding in the use of the latest statistical methods and software for analysis of genetic association studies. The course will cover both theoretical and practical aspects of the design and analysis of such studies. 

Next Generation Sequencing 
2-10 October 2011 
Closing Date 24 June 2011 
Summary: Laboratory-based course consisting of a mix of theoretical and practical elements focused on Solexa Sequencing on the Illumina platform. However, the course will familiarise participants with other technologies, allowing them to make informed decisions about which technology to apply to solve specific research questions. 

Working with Parasite Database Resources

Summary: Computer-based course providing experimental biologists with hands-on experience in genomic-scale data analysis, including genome browsers and comparison tools, methods for data integration and resources for sophisticated data mining.  

Working with the Human Genome Sequence

KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Kilifi, Kenya

Summary: Computer-based course providing an intensive introduction to bioinformatics tools freely available on the internet, focusing primarily on the Human Genome data. Students will be given hands-on training in the use of public databases and web-based sequence analysis tools. 

Protein Interactions and Networks
11-17 December 2011

Summary: Laboratory-based course providing training in the laboratory techniques and bioinformatics tools necessary to discover protein interactions and understand protein function.The week-long course will combine laboratory-based practical work with computer-based data analysis.
