The example files are just installed by "make install" ; if there is a 
simpler way in automake to handle this, it's OK to do the changes.

Also there are no (and should not be IMO) Makefiles by default, since 
"./configure" (if successful) will generate the Makefiles from Makefile.in 
files. But I guess this is not what you meant...
