many thanks for your help.

I am a bit confused because usually the java webstart should take care of
downloading the jar file.

The application should come up simply by clicking.

The browser only needs to know that files with ending jnlp need to be opened
with the application javaws found in Applications/java/javaws

Was there something like

"open application with javaws"

?
