Henry Rzepa, a pioneer in chemical data sharing formats and
visualization on the Internet, has been interviewed in the current
ACS Publications online newsletter, LiveWire:

http://pubs.acs.org/4librarians/livewire/2008/9.3/news1.html

He discusses web-enhanced objects which enable visualizations of
chemical data in online publications that are not feasable in print
on paper. In particular, he discusses uses of Jmol. Indeed there is a
whole paragraph "Spotlight on Jmol" that summarizes the history and
status of Jmol.
