I can confirm problems with ssh on theopenlab:

[zuazaga at aleph zuazaga]$ slogin -V
SSH Version 1.2.26 [i686-unknown-linux], protocol version 1.5.

[zuazaga at aleph zuazaga]$ slogin -l humberto bioinformatics.org
Connection closed by remote host.

I suspect /etc/host.allow or deny rules. ssh uses tcpd style access controls.

try putting sshd:ALL:allow in /etc/hosts.allow
