Guys, I want to welcome Gary Van Domselaar to the team! He's coming to us from the BioTools project, and would like to help with Loci coordination and documentation. Well, he wrote an introduction below, and you've got to check out the logos and GIF animations he's been working on. Really neat stuff. Jeff. ------------- Locians, My name is Gary Van Domselaar (http://redpoll.pharmacy.ualberta.ca/~gvd). I'm interested in joining the Open Lab to work on the Loci project. I am currently doing Ph.D. studies in pharmaceutical biotechnology and drug delivery at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. I have been involved in bioinformatics for about four years now. I wrote a good deal of the documentation for PepTool (proteomics) and GeneTool (genomics) for BioTools (http://www.biotools.com). I think I may be able to contribute to the Loci project as assistant coordinator [ie Jeff's flunkie :-)], documentation author, web page development, and hopefully some gui hacking, once I get up to speed on python and gtk. For my first task I think I should probably flesh out the web site a bit. What would you like to see? I personally like the GNOME web page design (http://www.gnome.org), which is quite a bit like the loci pages are now. For starters I propose the following structure: Main Page - Logo, blurb, and News. User Info Introduction to Loci Tour of Loci Download Documentation Developer Info Introduction (Joining, Background Info & Development Tools) Loci Architecture & Systems CVS instructions (CVS server?) Mailing List This structure is based loosely on the gnome web pages. I will be attending the American Peptide Symposium from June 26 - July 1, so I can get started when I get back. I made a couple Loci logos last week when i was playing with the GIMP and POVRAY. You can check them out at http://redpoll.pharmacy.ualberta.ca/~gvd/loci/ Give me your input and I will GIMP up an 'official' logo when I get back >from Minneapolis.
