Locians, I came across Sodipodi: http://www.ariman.ee/linux/sodipodi/ (impressive screensots) which is a GnomeCanvas-based vector drawing application. It also uses SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics), which is an XML description of drawings. Just what the doctor ordered. This is probably in the lead with respect to vector drawing applications that can be used as, and with, Loci viewers. Another option mentioned before is Sketch. But Sketch does not use SVG. Cheers.
