    The offers professional development courses for continuing scientific education. These are short, postgraduate-level courses on computational topics of interest to prospective and practicing researchers in the life sciences. Course titles and descriptions are below. We offer online and on-site courses, most of which can be customized for the needs of companies or organizations.


    Computer science topics

    Our courses in computer science use laboratory scenarios and data to introduce biologists to fundamental computing topics.

    The CS101 courses are for biologists who are unfamiliar with some or all of the computer languages and tools used in the bioinformatics discipline, and our CS102 and CS103 courses build upon the concepts introduced. CS102 and CS103 courses are project-based and use take-home assignments to acquaint the biologist with larger and more complex computing problems.

    Our courses in biology cover special topics in that field but introduce techniques for computational analysis that can be utilized by practitioners in any of the allied fields (CS, math, chemistry, engineering and physics).

    Our courses in math use laboratory scenarios and data to introduce biologists to essential topics in mathematics.

    The MA101 courses are for biologists who are unfamiliar with some or all of the mathematical methods used in the bioinformatics discipline.

    Step 1
    If you haven't already done so, create an on-line account to access the educational section of our website. Please note that the registration for our educational system is separate from that of the main website; you will require another account.
    Step 2
    Send in the registration form (PDF; use this form if paying by US checks, credit card or corporate purchase order).

    On-demand courses

    Students can sign up for on-demand courses and obtain the pre-recorded lectures, slides, datasets and examples, and then complete the course by themselves at their convenience. The certificate is also provided with this option, and there are substantial discounts compared with the tuition of live courses (please see the course descriptions for tuition information).

    On-demand "Course Bundle"

    If prospective students are interested in taking multiple courses, the "Course Bundle" option allows them to save money per course for unlimited access to all of the on-demand courses specified above.

    Price: $2,500 per Academic user and $3,000 per Commercial/Government user (with a Professional Membership) for perpetual access to course materials. Any new courses created by the trainer of these courses in the first year will automatically become available to subscribers at no extra charge. A renewal fee of 20% applies for adding such courses in subsequent years.

    10-week training program

    The offers a 10-week training program in bioinformatics and genomics that is geared towards:

    • Scientists who are eager to solve Genomics challenges themselves, thereby increasing their productivity and innovation
    • Computer programmers who wish to learn more about practical bioinformatics and get some hands-on experience with biological data, statistics and computational biology algorithms
    • Recent bioinformatics graduates interested in learning about real life challenges in Genomics for drug discovery and disease research

    The curriculum includes 10 topics, one of each will be taught every week in a one-on-one setting, online:

    • Overview of the bioinformatics landscape: technologies and applications
    • Linux OS: commands, applications and scripting
    • Overview of open-source bioinformatics software applications
    • DNA and Protein Sequence Analysis
    • Data management with MySQL
    • Statistical data analysis with R
    • Scripting with Perl
    • High Performance Computing
    • Microarray (Gene Expression, CNV, Genotyping) data analysis
    • Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis

    Price: $2,900 per attendee for the entire program or $1,900 for any 6 out of above 10 topics (with a Professional Membership).

    Duration: 10 weeks for entire program. One to two hours of live instruction and interaction with trainer per week, supplemented with video lectures

    Other logistics: Homework, quizzes and projects will be assigned and graded.

    This training program is certified by, one of the oldest and largest international affiliations in the field, and it will count as 34 "Continuing Scientific Education" (CSE) units (one unit per contact hour) within Students completing the program will receive a certificate of completion.
