Submitted by Blueprint Medicines, Inc.; posted on Thursday, January 30, 2014

    BACKGROUND

Blueprint Medicines is an exciting Cambridge, MA based company, founded in April 2011 and funded by Third Rock Ventures. We are harnessing the growing understanding of the molecular blueprint of cancer to develop highly selective cancer therapies. These new and novel medicines target both the molecular aberrations that cause cancer and the patients most likely to benefit. Our mission is to transform certain cancers to a manageable condition. We are looking forward to improving the lives of the patients we serve.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

We are seeking an innovative, collaborative and enthusiastic scientist to work on a variety of high-dimensional bioinformatics projects centered on target identification and drug discovery. The individual will integrate internal and external datasets, including next generation sequence data and tumor cell response data. The successful candidate will be one who can develop tools and analysis strategies to filter and distill multi-dimensional datasets to generate focused hypotheses to drive target identification/validation and drug discovery. A critical component of the job will be close collaboration with internal drug discovery teams and external investigators.

The qualified individual will also have the following:
    • Ability to creatively collaborate in a team setting to develop a platform for genomics-based target discovery.
    • Ability to apply and develop tools for integrative analysis and visualization of multi-dimensional datasets, integrating biochemical, cellular and genomic data using appropriate statistical methods to drive drug discovery projects.
    • Ability to apply or develop data-mining techniques for target identification.
    • A solid understanding of bioinformatics databases and software.
    • Ability to work effectively with external collaborators to funnel emerging genomics discoveries to guide internal programs and identify partners/consultants to complement internal bioinformatics efforts.
    • Excellent communication skills.
    • Experience with R, Python, SQL is desirable.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • This position requires a PhD in Bioinformatics, Biology, Genetics or equivalent.
    • A minimum of three to five years of relevant work experience in bioinformatics or computational biology in an academic or professional setting.
    • Solid scientific background and proven high levels of performance, as evidenced by a strong publication record.
    • Interest and/or demonstrated experience in translating the needs and solutions developed in the course of addressing specific analysis problems into broadly applicable and useful informatics capabilities.
    • Ability to self-direct and self-motivate.
    • Candidates must also demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem solving skills, and an ability to work as a team member in a dynamic, fast paced biotech environment.
