    Opportunity: Scientific Quality Assurance Engineer @ Computercraft--Bethesda, MD (US)

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Computercraft seeks a Scientific QA Engineer who will design, implement, and execute tests for National Center for Biotechnology Information's (NCBI) application portfolio, focusing on applications that display and manipulate genomic sequences. A person in this role must be able to work collaboratively with development teams to ensure NCBI's systems are reliable and perform as specified. He or she will be responsible for devising and implementing QA strategies to test graphical display of molecular biology data and sequence retrieval systems. A person in this role should have professional experience with test automation, software development, or computer science course work at the master's level.

    REQUIREMENTS

    Persons in this role must be able to work collaboratively with development teams and other members of the QA team to ensure NCBI's systems are reliable and accurate. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are needed.

    Education: Bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, bioinformatics, biological sciences, or engineering.

    Skills/experience:
    Required:
    • 2+ years of software development experience or software test automation
    • Excellent written and verbal skills
    • Collaborative. Must be able to work closely and collaboratively with software developers and project managers
    • Understanding of the software development lifecycle and experience in the areas of software testing, requirements analysis, and software design
    • Programming experience in two of the following languages: Perl, Java, SQL, C#, C, C++, or Python
    Highly desirable:
    • Background in biology, bioinformatics, or molecular biology
    • SQL Server, Sybase, or other relational databases
    • Experience implementing testing strategies such as unit, integration, regression, and system testing
    • Experience with automated testing tools such as AutoIt, Rational Functional Tester, or Selenium
