Opportunity: Research Applications Engineer (#16118) @ Weill-Cornell Medical College -- Doha, Qatar

BACKGROUND
Weill-Cornell Medical College has established a Center of Excellence in Basic, Translational and Clinical biomedical research with a world-class infrastructure, and outstanding scientists to target the most pressing health needs in Qatar and the region. In support of this research mission, WCMC-Q is building an HPC and genomic computing infrastructure and is recruiting a hands-on engineer to help provide computing and data management services.
RESPONSIBILITIES
As a key member of the Advanced Computing team at WCMC-Q, you will be responsible for performing and coordinating the architecture design, development, operation and maintenance of applications in support of projects and infrastructure related to WCMC-Q Research programs and activities. You will use your experience to evaluate requirements with scientists to manage and analyze research data and information to help attain research goals by designing, developing and deploying new and existing research informatics solutions. Your role will be pivotal to evaluate and test available bioinformatics data management and analysis tools for the interpretation, analysis, and integration of large biomedical and genomic data sets, particularly in an HPC environment. You will also deploy interfaces that allow the extraction, reporting and display of data within a robust pipeline in a web framework. The position will also require you to plan project requirements and work with manager to use internal resources, as well as provide project updates, and proactively raise and recommend resolution of technical issues.
REQUIREMENTS
- BS in Computer Science or Engineering, along with 4 to 5 years experience in programming and developing research applications
- Strong working knowledge of a couple of programming languages (such as Perl, C, Python, JavaScript, C#) and web development frameworks
- Experienced in using web and database technologies to manage large datasets, especially in Linux
- Flexible, team player able to work effectively with individuals with different backgrounds and levels of expertise
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Good organizational and project planning skills
PREFERENCES
A keen interest in contributing to biological research with clinical applications would be helpful, and prior involvement or interest in bioinformatics or medical genomics domain a plus. Knowledge of biomedical concepts and experience in scientific or clinical research and familiarity with commercial and open-source software in the field is preferred.
