 enclose characters between &lt;sup&gt; for superscript (&lt;sub&gt; for subscript) and &lt;/sup&gt; for superscript (&lt;/sub&gt; for subscript); e.g., for Ca<sup>++</sup>, type Ca&lt;sup&gt;++&lt;/sup&gt;
