    [ Ticket #1137 ] Winbirch priority

    Category:

    Priority:

    Ticket group:
    New Feature Request
    Resolution:
    Resolved
    Summary:
    Winbirch priority
    Original submission:
I think that winbirch should be assigned a higher priority than minibirch for the time being, as it will be useable directly by your students that would otherwise be using the CCU system, and be forced to compete for limited resources (1 of 4 sun workstations in plant sciences) or else relocate. Winbirch offers the possibility of them using these programs from anywhere they have internet (ex, a coffee shop), and frees up tho systems for people that need solaris specific features.

Targeting Winbirch at your students has several practical advantages. First off, it give us a community of beta testers. Second, it immediately launches BIRCH onto the academic scene for the average computer savie biology student wherever anyone has heard of BIRCH. Also, when you do your BIRCH presentations, you will be able to send much more people (not just mac and linux users) with BIRCH.

This will entail a group effort however. I will need to work with Graham to get bioLegato ported to Windows, and I will need to work closely with you to port the binaries, as you are probably the only one qualified to help port them (unless Graham ported the OS X binaries, i cant remember who dad that).

I have started working on this again as my primary project, but will continue to work on features and bugfixes for getbirch. 03/26/11 14:51 umhameld
You don't have to convince me of the importance of Winbirch. If nothing else, it will drastically increase the mind-share of BIRCH in the research community. 03/16/11 11:16 B_Fristensky
