Who created OWL?

OWL was initially created by researchers of the Structural Proteomics Group at the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Genetics. It is now maintained by a community of developers working in academia and industry.

Who is Otto Warburg?

Otto Heinrich Warburg was a German biochemist and Nobel laureate. He was named one of the twentieth century's leading biochemists. He was a professor in Berlin-Dahlem where OWL development was initiated. The name OWL is also a reference to the Warburg Library founded by cultural historian Aby Warburg.
