I just joined the list today, so please allow me to introduce myself. My
name is Eric Engelhard and I am a bioinformaticist at Sagres Discovery
(www.sagresdiscovery.com) in Davis, California. Sagres is a functional
genomics company focused on the molecular basis of cancer. Just in case
anyone is looking, Sagres Discovery has multiple bioinformatics
positions open.

I joined Sagres about 1.5 years ago and designed and built our small (36
cpu) Linux BLAST cluster. It is of the embarrassingly parallel and
variety and is being used to map Nx10^4 positional tags (genomic against
genomic, no masking!) against the Celera mouse assemblies. There is a
picture and additional details at
http://www.cvbig.org/meetings/cluster/cluster.html.

I am also a co-founder of the Central Valley Bioinformatics Interest
Group (www.cvbig.org), which also meets in Davis. We have ~100 members
from UC Davis and local biotech companies.

Regarding the O'Reilly conference, I would like to attend, but I have
new staff coming on and a class to teach. Too bad.
