The Ghemical-GMS group we have here at the University of Iowa are pretty close to having all our changes in ( I would assume about a week or two to finish the constraint updates depending on engines we update ) and then we propose to, at least internally, build the Mac OSX packages, test the changes we've put in, and then we will be ready for a release, however, we'd prefer to let the "ghemical" devs do the linux release, then we can create our Mac/Windows ports in quicker manner. With the use of autotools it's very easy to create releases (make dist?) so i don't see that as being a problem, and for all purposes we would be happy to release our own, the problem we do see is that we'd prefer to not have to release libghemical-gms and ghemical-gms, rather, have those be official releases. So, this e-mail is just to spark the discussion and to see what your opinion is on this topic. It also seems important to get these releases out since, as you say, you're already working on Ghemical 3, which seems a bit premature considering there hasn't even been a 2 release yet. I guess from an engineering standpoint, the question to ask is whether enough stuff has been fixed up and/or added in the VERSION_2_BRANCH to warrant a new release (we believe so i'm sure you got that impression already). However, I have no point of view on bug fixes as anyone using GAMESS is still stuck using the -gms version 1.01.07. I also recieved an e-mail informing me that Fedora/RedHat is not even going to support GTK1 / Gnome1 anymore. That puts us in a bind also. I know specifically that Tommi is very busy without me planting these seeds, but I'm willing to do whatever I can to help out with the project and help keep ghemical's development progressing.
