Hello again.

I have now the configuration issues of intltool+others solved in ghemical, so that the system could now be tested.
Now I would like to try a known translated program, and I chose gchempaint and took it from debian "lenny" (it's gchemopaint-0.8.7).

But now I don't know how to set a translation, say the french language version, active. I have tried

export LC_MESSAGES=fr
export LC_MESSAGES='fr'
export LC_MESSAGES="fr"

but nothing seems to have any effect.

So how can I easily test a translation (implemented using the gettext system)?
