I don't know if this is relevant, but I had a problem getting rasmol to load some mol and pdb files. This was on a windows XP machine. Files seemed to load sometime and not others. I got no error message. I finally discovered the problem was in the path length to the file. When the file was buried deep, with a long path name, it wouldn't open. Putting it in a folder with a shorter path name allowed it to open. I didn't experiment to see what the limit is, though.
