Yeah, its a strange business. The captcha on MetaBase went down and
within one day it was being spammed...

Right. However, I guess it would be worth contacting the original
author of that extension first to see if he has any suggestions about
how it could be integrated with recaptcha. It could be that there is a
simple way to call those routines.

Certainly the developers of recaptcha have put a lot of effort into
making their tool easy to use, so perhaps another route is just to
look at that code and not worry about how its done 'the mediawiki
way'.

In the mean time I'll keep an eye out for edits and check they are not spam.
