I tested Motif :-( and sticked to Tcl/Tk ... most because its very easy to
start and to extend.
But I can imagine testing something else too ... after all the GIMP's basic
model has some similarities to TULIP - and the GIMP made REALLY progress
.. so why not ?

I cannot imagine "high throughput sequence analysis" on a Mac or a Windows
platform ... on the other hand, for small lab applications both of them are
ok.

Craig Setera (setera at infonet.isl.net) has a port of GTK+GIMP for win95 -
currently needing a X-server for win95, but according to his page this is
just
"a stop-gap until the in-progress native port of GTK and the
      GIMP are completed."

So maybe until basic TULIP is running, GTK is allready ported to the
other OS?
