Currently this is failing when I test it on solaris only, though this may be because my gnome is messed up right now.
Need to verify this as working or else fix it

That is good to know. I am currently having serious problems on solaris that seem to be related to gconf, which is probably why the browser is not being detected correctly. Thanks for verifying this, closing this bug until this comes up again.

So far, my experience on all platforms, including Solaris, is that the browser DOES open with the BIRCH home page. This deserves a bit more testing, so far it looks okay.
