Summary:
Win Molekel crashes while opening files
|
Original submission:
On my machine (Win XP Media SP2, Intel Core 2 Duo T7200, 2GB RAM), the current Win-Version of Molekel 5.0.0.1 (default installation, old Molekel 4.3 removed previously) always crashes when opening a file (e.g. the example files, independent of format). I also tried out both DOS/UNIX endlines but without success.
Error signature:
AppName: molekel.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: unknown
ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 00000000
For the GAMESS_TS-ifolow.log I get the error "Cannot read GAMESS_TS-ifolow.log with Molekel 4.6 read_gauss() function

How do I change environment variables from the control panel? Thanks.

Same thing, with ATI Radeon X1300 (256MB). Setting the env vars solves the problem. (baoilleach@gmail.com)

No problem at all with your environment variables, you should not need to do that, this means that there are some problems with Open Inventor (the graphic library used by Molekel) and your graphics drivers (do you happen to have an ATI card ?).

(I'm assuming you installed and are using Molekel with Administrator's privileges).
Not sure this will fix the problem but try to set the following environment variables before running Molekel:
SET COIN_FULL_INDIRECT_RENDERING=0
SET COIN_FORCE_GL1_0_ONLY=1
If you do not want to set the variables from the control panel open a console window, set the variables and run Molekel from the console window (<path to molekel folder>binMolekel.exe)

specifying the file-format unfortunately didn't help; I still get crashes in general. In the particular case of the GAMESS_TS-ifolow.log I now get "Cannot read GAMESS_TS-ifolow.log with Molekel 4.6 read_gamess() function"

Had a similar problem; you need to select the file format: select the file to open AND the file format (GAMESS).
Log file are by default associated to Gaussian.
