Both phylograms and phenograms are tree diagrams, and they both have branch lengths which are proportional to inferred difference or divergence. But, phylograms represent phylogeny or evolutionary relationships, while phenograms represent phenetic or overall character relationships. A phylogram, for example, might be used to show evolutionary distances between several genes, while a phenogram might be used to show the differences in the color of a plant species’ flower.
