• BACKGROUND

To conduct genome-wide association studies (GWAS) between high-density genotypic data and phenotypes for diverse traits using appropriate statistical tools, identity SNPs and haplotypes associated with the traits, and facilitate curation of this information.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Perform and optimize genotype calling and imputation on SNP datasets from high-density arrays, re-sequencing and genotyping-by-sequencing approaches
    • Analyze phenotypic data in affiliation with groups generating the trait phenotypes to account for experimental design and other effects
    • Evaluate GWA approaches, develop analysis pipelines and tools for use by collaborators and conduct training in their use
    • Conduct GWAS between high-resolution SNP and whole genome sequence data and phenotypic data to identify significant alleles and SNP haplotypes associated with traits of interest for both breeding and up-stream genetics in collaboration with GRiSP and other research groups at advance institutes
    • Report results through publications in international scientific journals, project reports, and conferences/seminars

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in Genetics, Bioinformatics, Statistics or closely related disciplines
    Skills required:
    • Develops scientific framework including identification of the problems, formulation of hypotheses, and identification of appropriate approaches and methodologies.
    • Leads in research projects and experiments until completion, based on expected outputs.
    • Monitors and reports research developments, including critical findings, problems and solution to problems.
    • Establishes work priorities, utilizes budgetary and staff resources to accomplish goals.
    • Presents research findings in various formats such as refereed journal papers, seminars, conferences, and training materials.

    PREFERENCES

    • Experience in the application of genome-wide association studies, imputation genetic analysis of populations, skill in DNA sequence analysis, and a working knowledge of plant genomics, Linux, and programming.
