Opportunity: Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Cancer Computational Biology @ Case Western Reserve University -- Cleveland, OH (US)
Submitted by Cena Hilliard; posted on Friday, April 18, 2014
BACKGROUND
This funded research fellowship is an opportunity to become a part of an integrated program that includes basic research and clinical science at the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center. The fellowship is fully funded by a academic-industrial partnership between the Case Comprehensive Cancer Center and Philips Research and provides a unique opportunity to gain substantial research experience through close collaboration with a multi-investigator team of basic, translational and industrial researchers. The fellow will be a member of the newly established translational bioinformatics effort at Case Comprehensive Cancer Center, led by Dr. Vinay Varadan, focusing on the integrative analysis of next generation sequencing and multi-omics data generated within the cancer center. This fellowship would involve managing 2-3 translational bioinformatics research projects and thereby have opportunities for publications and experiences in numerous areas.
This Fellowship is of three years duration and is targeted to PhD level researchers in biomedical engineering/computer science/electrical engineering with a strong research interest in bioinformatics.
REQUIREMENTS
Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:
- Computational biology/Bioinformatics
- Bayesian approaches to data analysis
- Machine learning and/or data mining
Experience in one or more of the following is a plus:
- Analysis of Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data
- Integrative genomic analysis of whole genome/transcriptome/epigenome data
The fellow would be expected to present at national-level conferences, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication and be part of teams that create jointly owned intellectual property in the form of invention disclosures and patent applications. Mentorship from faculty at CWRU as well as Philips Research would be provided and would evolve over time as the fellow gains experience towards becoming an independent investigator.
