BACKGROUND:
A faculty position (Assistant to Full Professor, rank and title to be negotiated) is available in the Division of Biomedical Informatics, Department of Pediatrics, University of Cincinnati College of Medicine and the Informatics Center of Cincinnati Children's Hospital Research Foundation.RESPONSIBILITIES
Scholarly activity is expected to focus on improving the flow of clinical and research data and information into and out of databases, standardizing the naming and coding of biomedical data, and developing new methods of searching and discovering information within the data. The successful candidate will promote the use of genomic, proteomic, and genetic data within existing and planned biomedical research programs, where there is an increasing emphasis on the development of computational, genetic, and genomic approaches to personalized medicine. The faculty member will chair the institutional Data Standards Committee and administer the enterprise-wide, research data warehouse that supports both basic and translational research. A secondary faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering and participation in the graduate program in bioinformatics are possible.REQUIREMENTS
o PhD, MD, or MD/PhD with formal training in computer science
o Proven focus on and expertise in the fields of database architecture and design, data standards, information storage and retrieval, data modeling, data warehouse process management, ontology development, and knowledge representation
o Should be proficient at handling very large databases and at using HL7 and other healthcare or biological standards for sharing clinical, genomics, and proteomics data
o Candidates who have served as Principal Investigator or director of the informatics core of a funded NIH program are preferred.LOCALE
