    Title: Scientific Programmer
    Location: Illumina, Chesterford, UK

    DESCRIPTION

    Work on the next generation of analysis software for Illumina's ultra-high-throughput DNA sequencing platform, ranging from problems in efficient image analysis and sequence alignment, through to the annotation and interpretation of whole-genome sequence data.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Job duties include but are not limited to:
    • Development and improvement of data analysis tools for image analysis, base-calling and sequence alignment and other applications; including optimization, algorithm development, data handling
    • Maintenance of and contributions to the commercialization of the existing analysis pipeline
    • Software support for internal data analysis and data management projects

    REQUIREMENTS

    • 3+ years industrial or academic experience in scientific software development on Unix, Linux, MacOS or similar platforms.
    • Solid programming experience in C/C++, Perl/Python; experience with relational database systems is a plus
    • A demonstrable track record of project delivery within an objectives-oriented environment
    • Degree in a numerate discipline (natural sciences, computer science, mathematics); PhD or postdoctoral experience a plus

    PREFERENCES

    • Knowledge of algorithms (especially in the areas of image processing and sequence alignment/assembly)
    • Familiarity with common bioinformatics analysis toolkits
    • Experience in relational database systems
    • Experience of high-throughput data analysis
