    Opportunity: BIOINFORMATICIAN II @ Duke Center for Human Genome Variation--Durham, NC (US)

    The Center for Human Genome Variation at Duke University is currently seeking a Bioinformatician II. The main focus of this position will be to oversee a team of CHGV Bioinformaticians that focuses on new software development as well as development and maintenance of specific areas of the analysis pipeline. The candidate will also be responsible for leading the computational development for CHGV’s next-generation sequencing (NGS) pipeline and developing and implementing innovative computational approaches for the analysis of large sequence datasets from NGS technologies. The Bioinformatician II will train and assist CHGV staff and affiliates with data access, analysis, and interpretations and will collaborate and consult with CHGV researchers to analyze problems and recommend solutions to meet the computational needs for a wide range of biological research. This position will also be expected to contribute to publications related to the Bioinformatician work performed.

    Required Qualifications

    Work requires a M.S. in the biological sciences with demonstrable computational skills or a M.S. in computer science with a strong interest in biology/genomics.
    Work requires at least 5 years of experience in bioinformatics. Experience with web-based bioinformatics tools, public domain biological databases and software tools for sequence, domain and structural analysis. Extensive familiarity with and development of computational tools in biology that use genomic data to generate biological hypotheses. Experience with a procedural language, proficient in Java, Perl, C, web design, DNA genome informatics, proteomics informatics, statistics, and computer science. Experience with relational databases and SQL helpful.

    Preferred Qualifications

    Candidates with a PhD in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Medical Informatics are preferred. Experience and a strong interest in software development in an object oriented language, strong experience with the JAVA language, and knowledge of web development, particularly in web database development (such as Oracle or MySQL) is preferred.
