RESPONSIBILITIES
Weill Cornell Medical College seeks a highly motivated software engineer to develop software solutions for handling, integrating and visualizing multidimensional, high throughout genomics, epigenomics and other large scale biological data; provide software and data management solutions to the epigenomic core facility; design and implement computational pipeline for tracking and the analysis of high-throughput data; build databases and software infrastructure to handle large data sets processed by in-house and third party algorithms; gather user requirements, design and maintain data structures, graphical user interfaces, database driven websites, algorithms and documentation; and perform other job related duties as required.
REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, or bioinformatics, with a strong programming background; a graduate degree is preferred.
- Proficiency in the UNIX/Linux environment, including shell scripting, a high-level scripting language (Perl, Python, or Ruby), and a low-level, object-oriented programming language (C/C++ or Java)
- Significant experience in using and programming relational databases, including schema design
- Experience developing web-based applications
- Familiarity with the use of open source software libraries in software development
- Excellent organization and communication skills
- Knowledge of a scientific data analysis package such as R or MATLAB, as well as background in the biological sciences, is highly desirable
