Summary

Bifx'15 follows the success of series of conferences: Bifx14,Bifx13,Bifx12, Bifx11, Bifx10 and Bifx09.

Background

Over the last few years, research in the fields of bioinformatics and computational biology has gained momentum throughout the world, particularly in developing nations. Likewise, the "virtual conference" has taken root in these regions with the organization of several such conferences under the aegis of Bioinformatics.Org. The organizers of Bifx13 hope that this opportunity will continue to foster virtual interactions and collaborations among students, as well as researchers across the world, to further the advancement of science.

Bioinformatics Organization (Bioinformatics.Org) has over 40,000 members and currently hosts over 400 projects that are related to bioinformatics and computational biology. The Organization also offers online interactive tutorials on numerous relevant topics.

The tradition of virtual conferences at Bioinformatics.Org dates back to Bioinformatics to Systems Biology 2007 (BSB07). The BSB series ignited a spark in the audience across the world through four keynote talks and other virtual presentations and posters. The conference brought together a cumulative 100 attendees, both directly and indirectly, across the globe.

Special Reference

The organizers of past conferences at Bioinformatics.Org published Ten Simple Rules for Organizing a Virtual Conference—Anywhere, in the journal PLoS Biology, which explains the motivations and the approaches used in our virtual conferences.
