BACKGROUND
The Cancer Genomics Research (CGR) laboratory in Gaithersburg, MD, is a fast-paced, high-throughput genotyping and sequencing facility dedicated to the support of genetic and epidemiologic studies for investigators at the National Cancer Institute.RESPONSIBILITIES
Incumbent will join the Bioinformatics Team at the CGR and will participate in large-scale sequencing projects including data management, sequence QC, alignment, coverage analysis, and variant identification. In addition, incumbent will be expected to develop tools and operate software pipelines to manage sequencing analysis tasks and deliverables to meet project's needs, and to perform these assignments independently with input and guidance from the supervisor. Progress on assignments will be reported on a regular basis and incumbent may be responsible for presenting data at meetings, conferences or other venues.REQUIREMENTS
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree in biomedical science/bioinformatics/math/computer related field from an accredited college or university or four (4) years related experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- In addition to the education requirements, a minimum of six (6) years of competent, innovative research in a related field is required.
- Demonstrated independency and technical leadership in research and software development required.
- Experience managing complex programs or large production units required.
- Must have extensive experience in human genetics.
- Must be able to perform analysis of genomic data relevant to GWAS and large-scale sequencing.
- Experience in writing manuscripts and dissemination of data.
- This position is subject to obtaining a Public Trust Clearance.
PREFERENCES
- PhD degree in computational biology, bioinformatics or biomedical science
- Hands-on project management experience, sequence analysis
- Experience in handling large datasets
- Experience in the field of molecular and population genetics
