    BACKGROUND

    St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, located in Memphis, Tennessee, is a premier center for research and treatment of potentially fatal childhood diseases, including cancer and certain blood, genetic, and immunodeficiency disorders. The hospital's mission is to advance cures, and means of prevention, for pediatric catastrophic diseases through research and treatment. St. Jude is dedicated to providing unsurpassed patient care and to advancing the health of children through biomedical research.

    Currently, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital has an opening for a Bioinformatics Research Scientist (Job Number 31160).

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    The Bioinformatics Research Scientist in the Computational Biology Department takes a lead role in data analysis, data visualization, statistical analysis, experimental design and database development. Provides bioinformatics analysis for interdepartmental investigators and communicates and discusses with investigators on analytical process and results. Develops and participates in Computational Biology Department's independent research project. Actively participates in preparing and submitting manuscripts for publication. Contributes ideas to automate or improve existing analysis methods. May act as a project manager of designated research computing applications. Provides project oversight, scientific advice, programming support or other necessary input to achieve established objectives. Ensures that efficient and prompt help is provided to the SJCRH investigators.

    REQUIREMENTS

    • PhD in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related field plus three years of postdoctoral and/or job experience in Computational Biology or Bioinformatics research
    • Analytical experience in sequencing data, microarrays, SNPs, proteomics data or biological pathways
    • Experience with programming languages such as Perl, C, C++, SQL, PHP, or Java
    • Experience in development of algorithms, statistical methods or scientific software is preferred
